A Steady-Handed Scheffler Wins Second Green Jacket

This year at Augusta, several competing storylines captured the imagination of the golfing world. As the incomparable Tiger Woods strived for his 6th green jacket and his 24th consecutive made cut, Scottie Scheffler awed spectators as he joined the select group of 17 golfers, who has earned the title twice.

Despite an early tournament weather delay Thursday, gusting winds through the weekend, Scheffler was able to remain successful and gain over four strokes total to the field, a feat with which he is all too familiar. He has gained at least four strokes to the field more often than anyone else in the world this season.

With the win, Scheffler earned 100 world ranking points, 600 FedEx Cup points, his second green jacket and $3.6 million, a $360,000 increase from last year.

“It's hard to put into words how special this is,” Scott Scheffler reports to CBS News late Sunday night. “It's been a long week, a grind of a week. It was a battle. The golf course was so challenging, and to be sitting here wearing this jacket again and getting to take it home is extremely special.”

At just 27, Scheffler's career has become nothing short of extraordinary. With two green Jackets under his belt, he is the only golfer to earn back to back titles in 2023 and 2024. Maintaining 1st position in the Official World Golf Ranking for over 80 weeks, his dynasty becomes increasingly comparable to his own competitor, Tiger Woods. Both players are the only two to have won two green jackets while holding the top ranking.

As Scheffler's PGA legacy takes route, he and his wife Meredith expect another life changing event in the upcoming weeks. Addressing his impending fatherhood, Sheffler admits “[his] priorities will change very soon. My son or daughter will now be the main focus, along with my wife.”

Despite this pivotal moment, he does not plan on giving up his world ranking. “I still love competing,” he adds. I don’t plan on taking my eye off the ball anytime soon, that’s for sure.”
