British singer-songwriter, Alexander James O’Connor, known professionally as Rex Orange County, has been charged with six counts of sexual assault over the course of two days according to The Sun.
On June 1, 2022, O’Connor allegedly assaulted the woman twice in West London, once in a taxi the next day, and three more times at his home in Notting Hill. The woman’s identity has not been revealed to the public but she is said to be over the age of 16.
On October 10, 2022, he appeared in the Southwark Crown Court where he pleaded not guilty to all six charges and was released on unconditional bail. His provisional trial date has been set for January 3, 2023. His representative has stated, “Alex is shocked by the allegations, which he denies, and looks forward to clearing his name in court. He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”
Fans were rightfully shocked by this news when The Sun reported it on October 10. O’Connor didn’t mention any of this legal trouble, but in July he announced that he would be canceling his upcoming tour in Australia, New Zealand, and Europe because of “unforeseen personal circumstances.” He stated, “I love touring and I am so sorry to be letting anyone down. I look forward to getting back to it as soon as I can.”
Rex Orange County rose to fame in 2016 and has since released 4 albums. He grew very popular and many fans have tattoos dedicated to him. These fans are extremely upset and have been taking to social media to talk about the devastating news, one fan stated, “... Rex Orange County stickers are on my fridge. I’m heartbroken.”
