The Grammy Awards are an annual television event that grants the most prestigious music awards. It has been occurring for about 64 years and consists of many different musical awards for various types of music. Those who win a Grammy receive a trophy that looks like a gold-gilded gramophone. The Grammys are the first this year of the Big Three networks' major music awards held annually (CBS). This year, trending artists like Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Taylor Swift, Kanye West, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish have been nominated for many awards.
Justin Bieber is up for both Song and Record of the Year for his song “Peaches,” Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for his album Justice, Best Pop Solo Performance for his song “Anyone,” and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for his song “Lonely” with Benny Blanco. Justin Bieber continually gains support after the release of each song. He was a popular singer when he was younger but had stopped making new music for about 2 years, from 2013 to 2015. Since that gap, he has made at least one popular song each year. Although Bieber is up against many other trending and popular artists, he has a very big chance of winning one or more Grammys.
Additionally, Doja Cat is up for Record of the Year for her song “Kiss Me More,” Album of the Year for her album Planet Her (Deluxe), Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her performance on “Kiss Me More” with SZA, Best Melodic Rap Performance for her song “Need to Know,” and Best Pop Vocal Album. Doja Cat started making music in 2013 but became popular in 2020. She gained some popularity for a few of her songs in 2019, but she wasn’t as known as an artist as she is currently. Kanye West has also been nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album for his album Donda, and Best Melodic Rap Performance for his song “Hurricane.” Kanye West released this album in August in honor of his late mother, Donda West. Meanwhile, Billie Eilish has been trending since she started making music. This year, with her Album Happier Than Ever, she is up for Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Pop Vocal Album.
Taylor Swift has been nominated for Album of the Year for Evermore. Although she was only nominated once, there is a very high possibility that she will win. Taylor Swift was previously involved in a contract that scammed her into not receiving as much money as she would under a normal contract. In response to this, she remade versions of her songs under the title “Taylor’s Version” so that her fans could listen to her music while she still earned her fair share of the money. Although she is only nominated for one award, Swift deserves much recognition for her music and her journey.
Olivia Rodrigo released her first album in 2021, Sour. Once she released this, she immediately gained a large fan base. She is known as a big fan of Taylor Swift and is known to have a similar music style as Taylor Swift. This year, Olivia Rodrigo is up for Song and Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her song “Drivers License,” Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sour, and Best New Artist. Olivia Rodrigo and Justin Bieber have both been nominated 6 times, creating a battle for the awards.
In conclusion, it will be a tough competition between mainly Justin Bieber, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish for major Grammy awards in the Pop category. All with great music and worthy nominations, it will be exciting to see how this awards ceremony pans out. Other popular artists like Taylor Swift, Doja Cat, and Kanye West have a chance to win, but not as big of a chance as those top three artists.
